Travelling along the horizon
‘Travel fuels the imagination’ is a variant on an old saying which certainly applies to Michiel Schrijver. And painting is a form of travelling for him. The way it feeds his imagination is a great motivation to paint.
It is an amazement about everything he discovers on his journey through his inner world. That is what appears in his paintings.
The world of Michiel Schrijver does not exist but is nevertheless very realistic. With a little imagination, we can enter houses, walk down streets and wander from one painting to another in order to continue our own journey. His painted world is one of desire and each painting is a stop along the way. We pause for a moment, look around us, savour the light and move on.
Michiel Schrijver studied at Camberwell School of Arts in London.
